The verdicts of the 97th Targa Florio awaited for tomorrow

The starting ceremony in Campofelice di Roccella tonight at 22.30 (GMT+2) will start the 97th Targa Florio, race organized by AC Palermo and Automobile Club of Italy, as the seventh race of the Italian Rally Championship that will have validity for the Rally Challenge 8th Zone with coefficient 2 and for the Sicilian Championship.

After the ceremony in the middle of the town center "Cuore delle Madonie” the drivers will take the respective cars to the night reordering. On Sunday 29 September the Sicilian race will start at 7.30 with the twelve stages, three regrouping and service parks in Campofelice di Roccella.

The challenge for the Italian Rally Constructors Championship will see Peugeot with nine points lead to Skoda. The Italian branch of the Bohemian firm placed its bet on the Fabia Super 2000, that will start with number 1 that will be driven by the drivers of Car Racing. The Veronese Umberto Scandola and Guido d'Amore, are new Italian Rally Champions title that was celebrated with the victory in the Rally of Friuli at the end of August. The Lion brand lined up the 207 Super 2000 of Racing Lions that will be driven by the several times champion Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, on track with the number 2. The Tuscan driver is particularly loved in Sicily and has won this legendary race six times. The second Peugeot 207 Racing Lions with the number 3 will see the debut in Targa Florio of the lineup Meteco Corse made by Stefano Albertini with co-driver Simone Scattolin.

The race is going to be decisive for the Italian Production Rally Championship and for the Independents Cup with the young Andrea Nucita and Giuseppe Princiotto – the lineup from Messina of Team Phoenix – will aim to the full result in the home race on the Citroen DS3 R3, with which they ended second in the Rally of Friuli.

Peugeot's ranks will be strengthened by two more 207 Super 2000, one driven by the home hero Totò Riolo and navigator Massimo Alduina lined up by LB Tecnorally, while the other will be driven by the driver from Campofelice Filippo Vara and Gianfranco Rappa at the notes, with Island Motorsport's colors prepared by Balbosca.

Giuseppe Territo will compete in C.I.R. on the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO, while Giuseppe Tripolino, Antonio Di Lorenzo and Angelo Di Dio will hunt the points of the Challenge Rally 8th zone on their Lancers.

In the two-wheeled cars Nucita will compete against the Renault New Clio of Maurizio Mirabile, Giuseppe Alioto and Mauro Amendolia that will try to get some precious points for the Messina Racing Team in the teams classification of the Sicilian Championship, where the team is currently third. The Sicilian Gianluca Calì, coming from the experience in the World Rally Championship round of Montecarlo did not want to miss the home race at the wheel of the Citroen C2.

In the Challenge Rally 8th Zone Island Motorsport's Marco Runfola and Marco Pollicino will try to defend their leadership on the Renault New Clio belonging to BR Sport, from the attacks of Martina Rally Team's Salvatore Armaleo and Franco Chambeyront on Renault Clio Super 1600.

The live streaming of the race and live radio will be available through www.acisportitalia.it. The first live streaming of 40 minutes will begin at 22.20 (GMT+2), while on Sunday 29th September two more 40 minutes broadcasts will follow at 11.00 and 15.30.

Several TV channels will be present to get the action from all the stages of the race. Live coverage on Rai Sport 2 on Sunday evening to capture the arrival and live quotes.

The race itinerary will comprise 479,50 Km, 139,41 of which timed and split in 12 stages. The race will be run in one day only on Sunday after the night regrouping exit at 7.30. Four stages will have to be repeated three times: "Targa" (Km 9,67) at 8.15, 12.48 and 17.21; "Collesano" (Km 14,40) <t 9.23, 13.56 and 18,29; "Piano Battaglia" (Km 13,70) at 9.51, 14,24 and 18.57; "Polizzi" (Km 8,70) 10.28, 15.01 and 19.34. Three regroupings will take place at 11.33, 15.46 and 20.19, with as many service parks at 11.33, 16.06 e 20.39.
