Rome, 25 September 2016 - Umberto Scandola and co-driver Guido D’Amore are the winners of the 4th Rally Roma Capitale, seventh round of the Italian Rally Championship.

The Italian Rally Championship had an extraordinary stage in Rome that has been the location of the seventh of the eight rounds of the championship campaign. Rome and its Colosseo Quadrato that housed the two spectacle stages with thousands of spectators. Rome that with its treasures like Colosseo and Fori Imperiali watched a night pass of the protagonists of th race. Rome and EUR hosted Service Park and Rally Village, with the start and finish at Euroma2 Shopping Experience. All of this made Rally Roma Capitale – at its fourth edition with Motorsport Italia’s organization – something unique in the Italian series.

The 4th Rally Roma Capitale has been a nice and intense race, from the first to the final km, as Umberto Scandola, Paolo Andreucci and Giandomenico Basso have always battled close with each other.

Skoda’s driver managed to secure his second win at the Rally Roma Capitale, while BRC driver obtained a great result allowing him to keep the lead of the classification. Peugeot Italia’s driver scored also a great result and managed to close in on the lead of the standings.

The three drivers are now very close in the CIR classification. Giandomenico Basso is still leading at 80,75 points, while Paolo Andreucci is second at 80 and Umberto Scandola third at 74,50.

Behind the top three, Simone Campedelli and Danilo Fappani where fourth in Rome. BRC’s driver did not have a convincing exit in Rome on the GPL Ford Fiesta R5 and could not find the right feeling on the streets near Rome. The crews fighting for the Rally Asphalt Trophy did not have a lucky weekend, Alessandro Perico had to retire this morning due to the failure of the turbo of his Peugeot 208 T16 R5.

The fifth and sixth absolute place went to the local driver Tonino di Cosimo on Skoda Fabia R5 and to Alessandro Re on Ford Fiesta R5. Michele Tassone and Alice De Marco put in a good run on the Peugeot 208 T16 R5 ending seventh absolute. Marco Pollara and Giuseppe Testa, both on Peugeot 208 R2 complete the top ten. The Sicilian driver secured the points of day two but is still behind the driver from Molise, who is topping Junior.

In the women trophy, Corinne Federighi, on Renault Clio R3 had to stop in one stage today and gave way to Beatrice Calvi who won day 2 on Peugeot 208 R2 securing some important points for the classification.

The race of Rome was also the closing round of the R1 Italian Championship even if the title had already been won by Jacopo Lucarelli. Renato Travaglia and Massimo Nalli on Suzuki Baleno SR R1B have been the quickest in Romeleading Stefano Martinelli. The latter and co-driver Nicola Angilletta have been the quickest of Suzuki Rally Trophy.

Luca Panzani, with Sara Baldacci at the notes won the race and 2016 Clio R3T Trophy, having the upper hand on Kevin Gilardoni. The Twingo R1 Trophy was won by Riccardo Canzian and Matteo Nobili.
