Sanremo 10 April 2015 - Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, Peugeot 208 T16 R5, are leading the pack after five stages of the 62nd Rallye Sanremo, race valid for the second round of the Italian Rally 2015 Championship. The Tuscan driver so far has been the quickest in four out of five stages and leads BRC lineup made by Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai, on the GPL powered Ford Fiesta R5 by 11''4s and Umberto Scandola, Skoda Fabia Super 2000 by 11''7s. These three will most probably be the strongest contenders for the final win, but the long night Ronde of more than 45 km is still to be run as the whole leg two that will feature four more stages.
The first part of the race has shown that the big names of the championship that were disappointed in Ciocco managed to get back on their feet being protagonists again. This goes also down to the retirement of Alessandro Perico, due to steering problems after the victory in Tuscany.
Strong runs for Stefano Albertini, who is currently fourth at 33"9s on his Peugeot 208 T16, and for the French Chardonnet who, despite being at the debut in Sanremo, is fifth on his Ford Fiesta R5, even if with a gap to the top of 57s.
Nicola Caldani, third in Ciocco, experienced a lot of setup problems that slowed him down so far. In the Italian Production championship, Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarchiossi on Renault Clio R3T are dominating the race at the moment, while the CIR Junior is led by Michele Tassone and Daniele Michi, on Peugeot 208 R2, that are leading Giuseppe Testa who was slowed down by a puncture to the front left of his Peugeot 208 R2 in the fourth stage. Among the Twingos, Panzani inherited the lead after Bernardi was stopped by an engine failure after the second stage. In the Suzuki Rally Trophy/ACI R1 Trophy, after four stages, Claudio Gubertini seems to be motivated to keep the lead of the charts of the Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 R1B and is followed by Alessandro Uliana and Jacopo Lucarelli.
This evening the very long Ronde (45,72Km) will be quite interesting. The start is set for 22:54 local time, and will be followed by the last ACI Sport streaming appointment of the day from 23:15 to 00:10. Rai Sport 2 will also show the highlight of leg one from 22:40 to 23:10. Tomorrow, Saturday 11 April, engines will be switched on at 9:30 for the second and decisive leg that will schedule the two stages of "Passo del Maro" and "Vignai". The finish line is set in Piazza Adolfo Rava at 18.00.
