01/10/2011 - The sixth and last round of the Italian CSAI Karting Championship started at Ortona with the best possible premises of spectacle. The two titles still to be decided in KZ2 and KF3 will be awarded only after tomorrow's finals.

In this last round of the season 90 drivers are present in the 4 categories of the Tricolored, including the KF3 and 60 Mini where the title has already been assigned in the last race at Val Vibrata and went respectively to Federico Pezzolla and to the young Remigio Garofano. In total, 873 entries in the six races of the 2011 Championship highlight the interest for the Tricolored series, from this year managed directly by CSAI and promoted by Aci Sport.

The first racing day saw an interesting battle in the two qualifying heats in each category.
In KZ2 the classification leader Fabian Federer (CRG-Tm) was under the spotlight thanks to a spectacular pole position; he confirmed his speed in the first of the two heats that he won ahead of his championship rival, Alessandro Bressan (CKR-Tm). In this first manche the third position was obtained by the other title contender, Marco Zanchetta, on CKR-Tm, ahead of Alessandro Giulietti (Tony Kart-Tm) and Marco Pizzuti (Birel-Tm). Mirko Torsellini was at the debut in the championship as official CRG-Maxter driver and had to contempt himself with the sixth place.

Federer will not have a walk in the park on Sunday as Bressan won the second heat ahead of him. In this race a combactive Pizzuti managed to keep Torsellini behind until the flag.

The first final of KZ2, as in the case of all the other categories, will have the top eight positions in the classification after the two heats inverted on the grid. Bressan will therefore start from the seventh position, Federer from the eighth, Zanchetta from the ninth. On pole in final one will be Massimo Mazzali (Maranello-Tm).

In KF2 the first qualifying heat was won by Marco Moretti, moved from this race to the wheel of a Tony Kart-Tm, who still hase the mathematical chance of getting the title. Moretti proceeded the classification leader Gianni Vigorito (Birel-Bmb), while the other title contender Alessio Santilli (Intrepid-Tm) obtained a good third place on his home circuit ahead of the other home racer Alberto Di Folco (Parolin-Tm).
The second heat had the surprise of the incident at the start between Di Folco and Vigorito. The two drivers did not get any advantage from this: Di Folco (fifth at the finish line) was disqualified for uncorrect behaviour, Vigorito back on track in the last position obtained the tenth place, promoted then to ninth by the disqualification of Di Folco. The second heat was won by Marco Moretti again, proceeding Santilli and his brother Andrea Moretti.

In KF3 the duel for the victory is a matter between Mattia Vita (Birel-Bmb) and Federico Pezzolla (Intrepid-Tm), the latter is certain of being the new title winner since last race. The two heats were won by Vita ahead of Pezzolla, but between them the always faster Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex) could insert himself as he was third in the first heat (relegated to the sixth due to a 2 seconds penalty afterwards) and second in heat 2 between Vita and Pezzolla.

In 60 Mini the two manches went to Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart-Lke), smaller brother of Alessio. In the first heat, Lorandi proceeded the Turkish driver Besler Berkay (Top Kart-Lke) and Robert Shwartzman, on Top Kart too. Good performance for Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart-Parilla), fourth and followed by Alessandro Stura (Top Kart-Parilla).

In the second heat Lorandi won and was followed by Alex Machado (Birel-Lke) of Andorra, while Shwartzman was third again. A little bit more on the back was Remigio Garofano (Top Kart-Lke) but he already has the certainty of being the title winner.

The finals-2 of KF2 and KZ2 will be covered live on TV by Nuvolari tomorrow starting from 14:20 (local time, GMT+2). The finals of KF3 and 60 Mini will be on TV at 17:55 (not live). "Sportitalia 2" will show the full races on Wednesday 5 October.

In Ortona the CSAI initiative in collaboration with Ferrari Driver Academy and the Federal School of Vallelunga for the selection of three young promising drivers to start to professional motor racing will be repeated.
