13/05/2012 – The Italian CSAI Karting Championship 2012 edition, organized for the second year in a row by CSAI and promoted by ACI Sport, started in a great way at the International Circuit Napoli of Sarno.

Good figures, 157 drivers competing in the 4 categories KF3, KF2, KZ2 and 60 Mini, and good spectacle on track with a lot of interesting names and top class teams, the participation of several official brands, which confirms once more that the championship is the national reference point, with several foreign drivers coming from several European, American and Asian countries as well as from Japan to make this tricolored series even more interesting.

The final stage of the first racing weekend of the season was run on two Finals, with some surprises in the second race due to the top 8 inversion of the grid decided by rule. This increased the liveliness on the podium with several drivers obtaining the top positions.

KF2. In KF2, the first category running the Finals on Sunday, the first race (coming with an heavier points load) was won by an excellent Gianni Vigorito, racing for Birel, who has been a title contender last year with Santilli. Behind Vigorito, in Final-1, ended Matteo Gasparrini (Tony Kart-Vortex), who was on top at the start, and then Andrea Moretti (Kosmic-Tm). In race-2 a wild start took off several drivers at the first corner, such as Vigorito who started from the eighth spot of the grid. Federico Pezzolla (Kosmic-Tm) celebreted the victory instead, he started in ninth place and then he got on top leading the brilliant Japanese Fuma Horio of Super Winnforce (that is Birel Japan) and Moretti in third. Good performance by Andrea Russo (Kosmic-Vortex) for New Force, fourth at the finish line. Moretti is currently leading the championship at 42 points, followed by Vigoito at 40.

KZ2. The first final was won by the quick driver from Naples Ciro Mollo (FK-Tm), who has been under the spotlight also in other International races. Mollo proceeded Alessandro Giulietti (Intrepid-Tm) and Massimo Dante (CKR-Tm) at the chequered flag. Francesco Celenta (Birel-Tm) ended fourth ahead of his team mate Marco Pizzuti and Lorenzo Camplese (Intrepid-Tm), with the latter being back to karting after two seasons in motor-racing. Dante has been the fastest in race two instead and ended ahead of Celenta and Camplese, while Pizzuti ended fourth. The KF2 World Champion of last year, Loris Spinelli, recovered up to the ninth place while Giulietti ended tenth and Mollo 16th.
Dante leads the championship with 50 points, ahead of Celenta at 42.

KF3. In KF3 the driver from Brescia, Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex), was under the spotlight since the beginning after being selected by the Ferrari Driver Academy last year. Lorandi won race one ahead of Francesco Iacovacci (Tony Kart-Tm) and Marcu Dionisios (Top Kart-Parilla), while Luigi Angelillo (Tony Kart-Vortex) ended fourth and Christian Castelli (Intrepid-Parilla) fifth due to 3 seconds time penalty that relegated him from the third position under the chequered flag. In race-2 Lorandi has been slow at the start and Iacovacci took advantage of this securing the victory. Angelillo ended second, while Lorandi managed to recover from the 14th place up to the lower step of the podium. Fourth was Danilo Albanese (Energy-Tm), another interesting driver, and Dionisios recovered up to the fifth place after slipping down into the 20th position.
Lorandi leads the championship with 58 points, Iacovacci follows with 56.

MINI. The 60 Mini saw 49 young drivers aged between 9 and 12 producing spectacular and tight races with a Lorandi driver again on top: Leonardo (Tony Kart-Lke), Alessio's brother, won both finals. He clinched the victory of the first race at the final sprint at the end of several positions exchanges, but more exciting was his second win of the day that was obtained just two corners to the end by overtaking last year's champion, Remigio Garofano (Top Kart-Lke) who ended race one in third. Very good performance from "Alex" Irlando (Top Kart-Lke), who was second in race-1, and from Pietro Mazzola (CRG/Hero-Parilla), third in race-2.
Leonardo Lorandi is currently leading the classification with 66 points, ahead of Garofano at 46.

The next round of the Italian CSAI Championship is scheduled for 3 June in Ugento (Lecce).
