Imola, Race 1: Danny Molinaro wins opening round

The Italian driver pips Uboldi by 0.119s

Danny Molinaro takes the win in the opening round of the 2023 Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi. The 2021 Champion crossed the chequered flag by only 0.119s of advantage on Davide Uboldi runner up in 2021 and winner of the title in 2016. A spectacular fight went underway between the new 2023 title contenders.

This frist round was full of surprises, which saw the withdrawal of Matteo Roccadelli, poleman of the day already, in the opening lap due to a techincal issue. Some issues called out from the race also Alister Yoong, son of former F1 driver Alex, who had to retiere when was third. Jesse Menczer took his place on the lowest step of the podium, thus waving the Stars and Stripes flag.

Fourth place for Pietro Ferri, driving for Emotion Motorsport, ahead of Michele Fattorini and Manuel Deodati under the chequered flag. Seventh final place for Stefano Attianese, with the Roman-born driver completing the first race of the season ahead of Mariano Maglioccola and Sonia Roussel; Donald Milokanovic closed the Top-10.

The CISP still has a chapter to write in this first weekend of the season: race-2 is in fact scheduled for Sunday April 23rd at 5:00om, the last chance for the riders to bring home a good result.
