Emil Hellberg is the winner of the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi’s second race in Pergusa. The Swede, on pole thanks to the reversed grid, battled with Alister Yoong, who managed to lead the race after a great start. The Malaysian though was responsible for an infringement at the restart, behind the Safety car due to the heavy rain that was hitting the track, and received a 10-seconds penalty from the race direction. During the seventh lap the son of the ex Formula 1 driver hit a curb too hard and had to retire, leaving the lead to Matteo Roccadelli.

While creating a gap from Hellberg and Uboldi, the driver from Piedmont found the slower car of Stefano Attianese at turn 7, losing the time he gained and encouraging the Swede’s comeback. Uboldi and Roccadelli battled their hearts out for the rest of the race, with the driver from Como in front until the very last lap. The three drivers on the podium finished the race with only 1”5 separating them. Uboldi is still the championship leader with 65 points while Hellberg is right behind him with 49 points.

Just below the podium was Danny Molinaro, author of a consistent weekend who enabled him to jump back to fourth in the championship standings with 40 points. Jesse Menczer closed the Top 5 ahead of the Indian driver Vignash Kadarabad. Seventh was David Acosta Molina, back on track after skipping the Imola round due to some visa issues. Sergio Farris made a pretty decent debut, closing his race eighth ahead of Donald Milokanovic and hometown hero Salvatore Pennisi.

The next round of the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi is scheduled at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the 23rd-25th of June, for the fifth ACI Racing Weekend of 2023.
