Matteo Roccadelli proves to be the man to beat in qualifying: the BHK Motorsport driver delivered a fine performance in order to secure his third pole position out of three outings in the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi in 2023, and will start from pole in the weekend’s first race here in Monza. After not taking part in today’s second free practice session, the driver from Vercelli only managed to go out on track in the dying stages of qualifying; however, thanks to his last lap of the session he was able to take pole from Danny Molinaro, who missed out on pole by just 30 milliseconds and had to settle for second place after leading both free practice sessions earlier today.

Given the high temperatures in Monza, it was a very tough session for the drivers, who also had to keep their cool after the session was red-flagged twice: the first time it was Stefano Attianese who caused qualifying to be stopped with 14 minutes to go, and then Vignash Kadarabad crashed in the second Lesmo corner with just four minutes left on the clock. The second row of race-1 will be a Swedish family affair, as championship leader Emil Hellberg got the better of his teammate and brother Linus; a great performance from Surineni Chetan, who’s making his 2023 debut in the series, saw the Indian driver finish the session in a brilliant fifth. Alister Yoong, son of former Formula 1 driver Alex, ended up in sixth, just ahead of both Kadarabad and Davide Uboldi: the 50-year-old will therefore start from pole position in race-2, thanks to the reverse-grid format that will shape the grid for the final race of the weekend.

The CISP programme will resume on Saturday, with race-1 scheduled to take place at 2:15 PM, and race-2 will instead start on Sunday at 11:00 AM. The races will be live streamed on ACI Sport TV, channel 228 on Sky, and on its social media platforms (Facebook and YouTube).
