Matteo Roccadelli has won race-2 of the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi here in Monza: the driver from Vercelli has clinched the win in the second event of the weekend after dominating Saturday’s event. The race was full of surprises even before the green flag, with India’s Vignash Kadarabad unable to start the race: the driver who was supposed to start from second place couldn’t make it to the start, as his car came to a halt after the second Lesmo corner on his way to the grid. The race start saw Roccadelli have an excellent getaway, as he got up to third place after just a few meters; the race was then immediately neutralized, as the safety car intervened following a contact between Pietro Ferri and Stefano Attianese in Ascari. The safety vehicle therefore made its way onto the track in order to recover both Attianese’s and Giovanni Mazza’s cars, with the latter spinning out of the race in Ascari, too.

At the restart Roccadelli was quick to get the race lead, overtaking both Davide Uboldi and Emil Hellberg and therefore getting in front of the pack: the BHK Motorsport driver then managed to control the race to the finish line, despite the pressure he felt from his Swedish rival in the latter stages of the race, as he won his second consecutive race establishing himself as the best driver of the entire weekend. Second was Emil Hellberg, who was able to jump from fifth to second at the start; after taking the lead at the restart from Uboldi, the Swedish driver had to concede the race lead to Roccadelli, but he managed to keep up with the driver from Vercelli and he finished the race less than a second behind the winner. With only a few minutes to go, the battle between Davide Uboldi and Danny Molinaro stole the show, with the latter able to take home third and finish the race on the lower step of the podium.

Uboldi then crossed the line in fourth, as he was unable to finish in the top-3 after starting from pole; fifth was Alister Yoong, who had to defend the place from Linus Hellberg, but in the end the Swedish driver had to settle for sixth. Surineni Chetan, who had a good recovery drive after starting from the pits, finished in seventh, whereas Jesse Menczer ended up in eighth. Rounding off the top-10 were Davide Acosta Molina and Sonia Roussel.

After an exciting weekend of racing, the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi will come back to Monza after the summer break, with the fifth round of the 2023 season scheduled to take place from the 15th to the 17th of September.
