Alister Yoong triumphed in race-2 at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello: the Malaysian, son of the former Formula 1 driver Alex, won the last race of the penultimate weekend of the season. The young driver started from the fifth position and managed to immediately take the lead at Turn 1 ahead of Emil Hellberg and Jesse Menczer, while Matteo Roccadelli (BHK Motorsport) didn’t have a great start from pole and found himself fifth. At the end of the first lap, the safety car was deployed: Linus Hellberg lost control of his car at the exit of the Scarperia and hit the barriers, putting an early end to his Tuscan weekend. At the restart, Menczer was forced to retire his car, as he lost engine pressure when the green flag was waved.

Yoong therefore started to build his gap from Emil Hellberg, while Uboldi started to put pressure on the Swede for the second position; behind them, Pietro Ferri (Emotion Motorsport) was able to overtake Roccadelli for the fourth place: the championship leader suffered a chronic lack of peak speed that did not allow him to fight for the win in race-2. With eight minutes to go, Emil Hellberg tried to attack Yoong, but the Malaysian was able to keep his lead. Two laps later, Ferri was the protagonist of a spin at turn 11, that saw him lose the fourth position; soon after Donald Milokanovic had to retire his car due to a technical failure. During the last lap, Ferri was able to overtake Roccadelli again, while Yoong kept his cool to maintain the first position.

Therefore the Malaysian won for the second time in the 2023 season, crossing the finish line only 588 thousands before the Swede. Third was Davide Uboldi, who gained points in the championship standings, getting closer and closer to Matteo Roccadelli, fifth at the checkered flag. Fourth was Pietro Ferri after claiming his first podium during the first race of the weekend. Sixth was Giovanni Mazza (Emotion Motorsport), still first in the Master trophy.

After the sensational races at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, the Campionato Italiano Sport Prototipi will be back on track in Vallelunga, with the Circuito Piero Taruffi hosting the last round of the season from October 13 to October 15.
