The timing against the clock on the Imola track remains highly contested during the day dedicated to free practice for the second round of the Italian F.4 Championship. Problems in practice for Hiyu Yamakoshi, the Japanese driver from Van Amersfoort Racing, who led in the initial stages but was stopped by an accident at turn 14. The driver is okay, but the session was interrupted to restore safe conditions on the track.

The session resumed with Gustav Jonsson, the Swedish driver from Van Amersfoort Racing, leading the session. However, everything changed on the timing board in the final minutes when Kean Nakamura Berta, the Alpine Academy driver from Prema Racing, took the lead before a further upheaval right at the checkered flag. It was at this point that Alex Powell, the Jamaican driver under the Mercedes junior team banner, completed his lap in 1'45.192, finishing the day with the absolute best lap time. Following him, also right at the checkered flag, was his teammate in Prema Racing, the Indian driver Dion Gowda, who finished second with a gap of only 0.020 seconds. Nakamura Berta then concluded third at 0.181, followed by Jonsson in fourth position at 0.222.

Freddie Slater, the British driver from Prema Racing currently leading the drivers’ stadings, finished Free Practice 2 in fifth place. He recorded a gap of 0.230 on the best lap. Sixth was Tomass Stolcermanis, the Latvian driver from the team led by Angelo Rosin, who lapped 0.340 behind Powell.

Seventh was the Serbian driver from Van Amersfoort Racing, Andrija Kostic, with a gap of 0.356; followed by the Finnish driver from R-ace GP Luka Sammalisto, at 0.413. Closing the top 10 were the Italian driver from AKM Motorsport Emanuele Olivieri, with 0.418, and the Emirati driver from Prema Racing, Rashid Al Dhaheri, with 0.455.

Thus ended every opportunity to work on the setup for the weekend, following Thursday's collective tests and today's free practice sessions. The next step for the 38 drivers in the Italian F.4 Championship will be the qualifying sessions that will decide the grid for the 3 races of the weekend.

They will take to the track again tomorrow, Saturday, June 1, in two 15-minute sessions starting at 10:40 and 11:05. Qualifying 1 will decide the grid for the first race, and the second session will be valid for the grid of Race 2; while the grid for the last race of the weekend will be decided by the second-best time obtained across the two sessions. Therefore, Race 1 (30 minutes + 1 lap) is set to start at 17:30 on Saturday evening. Sunday, June 2, will feature Race 2 (30 minutes + 1 lap) at 9:00 and Race 3 (30 minutes + 1 lap) at 15:30.

The 3 races of the weekend will be broadcast live with commentary in Italian on ACI Sport TV, channel 228 of Sky, channel 52 Tivù Sat, and www.acisport.it, and with commentary in English on the official YouTube and Facebook pages of the Italian F.4 Championship, as well as on the championship's extensive international network.
