Mugello, tight duel in qualy one: pole to Davide Di Benedetto

30/07/2011 - The pole position of race one for classes GT2-GT3-GT4 has been decided by just one thousand of a second. A particularly tight session was ended with the best time of 1´49.934 set by the Sicilian Davide Di Benedetto (Corvette Z06), who managed to be 1 thousand of a second faster than Marco Bonanomi (Audi R8 LMS). Audi Sport Italy's color bearer led the session for a long time but the finale awarded the Sicilian driver with his first pole position of the season after being under the spotlight together with his crew-mate Michele Merendino thanks to the victory in Imola's race one.

Third time (1´51.335) and second row of the starting grid for the other Audi Sport Italy driver, Alessandro Cicognani, who proceeded the Porsche RSR of GT2 class driven by Victor Coggiola (1´52.476) and the German coupe GT3R of Autorlando driven by Mario Cordoni (1´52.991), while in GT4 the new entry Matteo Cressoni (Ginetta G50-Nova Race) 1´59.123 ended ahead of his team mates Manuel Lasagni (1´59.646) and Tiziano Cappelletti (1´59.688).

In GT Cup the pole position went to Christian Passuti (Porsche 997-Best Lap/Antonelli) who set a fastest time of 1´53.365 ahead of the Porsche 997 of GDL Racing driven by Valentino Fornaroli (1´54.914). Behind them, will start Alberto Bellini (Porsche 997-AB Motorsport/Antonelli), third in free practice, 1´54.990, and the current classification leader Flavio Pierleoni, fourth in 1´55.179, at the wheel of the Ferrari F 430 belonging to Scuderia 27 Baldini Mode.

The programme of the fifth round of the season will continue this afternoon with the second qualifying valid for race two at 18.10 (local time, GMT+2).
