Former F1 drivers Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella (Ferrari 488 GT3) will be at the start of the 3rd round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship from Friday on at the circuit of Vallelunga. Among the 23 lineups making it onto the track for the two hours-long race, Scuderia Baldini’s drivers are the stars. The team will make its debut of the season in the endurance series after the great results obtained so far in the sprint series with both its lineups fighting for the title. Next to the 12 GT3 cars, 11 cars will contest GT Cup.
GT3: Barrichello-Fisichella will challenge the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of VSR which will be driven by Beretta-Liberati-Nemoto and Basz-Hites-Michelotto, the lineups that dominated the first two rounds held in Pergusa and Mugello and now lead the standings equal on points. The challenge is going to be tough as the first part of the season saw several other protagonists coming to the fore with what it takes to get on the top step of the podium. Among these, Pijl-Guzman-Llarena (Lamborghini Huracan GT3-Imperiale Racing) and Moncini-Guidetti-Cabezas (Honda NSX GT3-Nova Race) are chasing the classification leaders and in Vallelunga will be supported by the teammates Balthasar-Ponzio-Roe for the Mirandola-based team and by Magnoni-Di Fabio, that are leading GT3 AM and the Chinese rookies Liangbo-Zhiwei that will compete for the team based in Varese.
In PRO-AM the BMW M4 GT3 of Comandini-Fascicolo-Nilsson is going to be the car to be beaten as the BMW Italia-Ceccato Racing Team drivers claimed two second places in the initial two races and are 3 points clear of the runner-ups of VSR, Cola-Moulin, that won in Pergusa, and Antonelli Motorsport’s Pesce-Rappange-Linossi and Scholze-Galbiati, that won in Mugello, in the Mercedes AMG GT3.
GT CUP: The classification is quite tight in this category. Coluccio-Mazzola (Ferrari 488 Challenge-Easy Race) and Pavlovic Fischbaum (Lamborghini Huracan ST-Bonaldi Motorsport) share the success in the first two rounds, while Nicholas Risitano and Manuel Menichini are 2 points short of them and will compete in the Lamborghini Huracan ST of Team Italy. The cars made in Sant’Agata Bolognese will also be fielded by FFF Racing Team for Luciano and Donovan Privitelio and Testa-Hamaguchi and by Team Lazarus for Bozzoni-Del Monte-Santonocita – that were third in Mugello. Krypton Motorsport will line up two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in PRO-AM, one for Cazzaniga-Di Benedetto-Nicolosi, that were fourth in Mugello, and one for Berton-Mainetti-Riva.
The classification of GT CUP-AM is more defined and the main duel should be within SR&R, with Francesco La Mazza with Lorenzo Bontempelli and Jacopo Baratto in the Ferrari 488 Challenge. He is the leader with 12 points of margin on teammates Buttarelli-Cossu-Bacci. The Porsche of Kripton Motorsport driven by the runner-ups in Pergusa – that will not have handicap times to serve – Locanto-Rodio-Pezzucchi will challenge them.
PROGRAM and TV schedule: The third round of the Endurance series will kick off on Friday with a free practice session of 1.30h at 16.05 and will continue with the second session from 8.30 to 9.30 on Saturday. The three qualifying sessions will follow (from 14.55 to 16) to define the pecking order of the two-hour-long race that will get the green lights on Sunday at 15. The race will be covered live by Acisport TV (Sky 228), while Rai Sport will show it recorded.
