Manufacturing in Emilia-Romagna is historically one of the most important items in the labour sector. Despite the general difficulties, which were also exacerbated by the terrible floods that hit some of the most industrialised areas of the region, production has not decreased in recent months. Some difficulties were experienced by small companies, while large companies maintained the same standards in 2023 as they did in the previous year. The former, it is worth remembering, which can be calculated with greater certainty, since it brought us out of the tragic consequences of the Covid pandemic, which so impacted the global economy. According to the study carried out for the past year by Confindustria, in fact, in 2023, regional manufacturing exports reached a total of EUR 82.872 billion. A significant figure that represents 13.9 per cent of national exports and which recorded an important increase of 0.8 per cent compared to the previous year. It is precisely the means of transport industry, with a percentage growth of 11.5%, that has recorded the greatest growth, flanking other historical productive strengths of Emilia-Romagna such as the food sector, which – in turn – has experienced a 5.5% increase. Also on the rise is the industrial employment figure, which saw 10,800 more workers employed than in 2022, a growth of 2%. Overall, manufacturing in these lands, employs more than half a million people, confirming itself as the driving force of the entire regional economy.
