Italy is known to be one of the world’s top tourist destinations. The beautiful cities of art, marvellous coastlines, mountains, dotted with history and stories attract millions of people from every corner of the world. In this sector too, Emilia-Romagna is a leading region. Confirmation comes from the data on tourist presence in the region. Overall, presences in 2023 exceeded 61 million, with a growth of 1.9% compared to 2022. Among the numbers that best explain the tourist phenomenon in this part of Italy are those relating to foreign arrivals, which totalled 16.4 million in 2023 with an average stay of more than four days.

Nearly 70% of the entire regional tourist movement is concentrated on the Riviera with its endless beaches and thousands of attractions, but we cannot forget the excellent results of the cities of art – Bologna in the lead, of course – which collect 15% of the admissions. Another aspect, perhaps less well known, of tourism in the land of Emilia-Romagna is that represented by the mountains. The Apennines, with their peaks, forests and extraordinary places, nevertheless collected 4.9% of tourist presences. Finally, it is also worth mentioning the spa sector, which was the one that suffered most during the Covid period,-and which is now trying to climb back up the slope, registering a 1.4% improvement in 2023 compared to 2022.
